EMPLOYERS need to be aware of the changes in legislation which have come in to force in recent weeks (including an increase to statutory redundancy pay).

The maximum amount of a ‘weeks pay’, for the purpose of calculating certain statutory repayments including redundancy payments has been increased from £350 per week to £380 per week as of 1st October 2009.  This has been implemented by the Work and Families (Increase of Maximum Amount) Order 2009 SI/2009/1903.

The national minimum wage has been increased as follows;

a) for workers aged 22 and over – from £5.73 per hour to £5.80 per hour;

b) for workers aged 18 to 21 year old – from £4.77 per hour to £4.83 per hour;

c) for 16 and 17 year olds – from £3.53 per hour to £3.57 per hour
