  • Damages and printed apology successfully achieved on behalf of Mike Kelly, former assistant to Roy Hodgson. Associated Newspapers Ltd, publishers of the Daily Mail and Mail Online, agreed to pay damages and publish an apology to Mike Kelly, following allegations of him offering for sale sporting goods, including the Swiss international kit and Inter Milan kits following England’s qualification to the World Cup Finals in Brazil.

  • Represented a professional football player in the pursuit of an action for damages via the Football League’s Football Disciplinary Commission (FDC), against his former club who, it was claimed, unlawfully terminated his playing contract. The matter was settled out of court with the player recovering damages, enabling him to sign for a Championship team.

  • Acted for a professional footballer in the defence of Rule K FA Arbitration proceedings. A claim was brought against the player following an allegation that he had agreed an extension to his contract with his former club but then transferred to a Scottish Premier League club, despite that agreement. The club claimed the loss of transfer value. The case was successfully settled prior to the final hearing with our client player having to pay no damages.

  • Acted for a footballer arrested in a police investigation into allegations of serious sexual offences committed at a party at the home of a Premier League footballer. Our client’s release was initially achieved on bail conditions and following representation on various aspects of the case including consent, electronic and forensic evidence, no further action shall be taken by the police. We are currently providing advice in relation to a potential claim against the complainant with regard to malicious complaint.

  • Represented an international premiership footballer in a claim for damages for allegations of defamation against two national newspapers and a television broadcaster. The client received published apologies and substantial damages.

  • Represented a former premiership footballer turned nightclub owner in a High Court action brought under the Protection from Harassment Act.

  • Advised a former international footballer and top flight manager in relation to defamatory comments made by a fellow former footballer.

  • Represented a current premiership football player in the defence of a claim for breach of contract.

  • Advised an amateur football club on the appeal of a disciplinary hearing.

  • Acted for a current football player in relation to a dispute concerning an international property investment.

  • Advised Bsynergie Sports Ltd, agency to sporting professionals, in relation to agency agreements. Farleys Sports Law team were engaged to prepare numerous bespoke agreements and ancillary documentation to govern the relationship between Bsynergie Sports and professional rugby players.

  • Rendered advice and prepared a shirt sponsorship agreement for a Football League Club.
