Background
Mrs Q was a pedestrian crossing a road in Lancashire when she was struck by a vehicle whose driver was not paying proper attention to the road.
Mrs Q was airlifted from the scene of the accident by the air ambulance and was taken to hospital. She had a bleed on her brain so she was kept in hospital as an inpatient for a number of nights before being allowed home.
Mrs Q was extremely fortunate that her physical injuries were relatively minor. Unfortunately, however, the head injury had a significant effect upon her. She had problems with concentration and short-term memory, and the accident had a devastating effect upon her from a psychological point of view. She lost her confidence and was regularly tearful when thinking about the accident.
