Farleys’ personal injury solicitors recently settled a successful claim on behalf of a client who sustained injuries as a pedestrian in a road traffic collision.

Background

Our client, Miss H*, was walking home after a football match. She was crossing the road, standing on an island when a car mounted the kerb and struck her, knocking her around 25 feet.

She was taken by air ambulance to hospital, where she was admitted to the trauma unit where she underwent treatment for her injuries which included a bleed on the brain, a fractured cheekbone and hip, plus various other injuries.

Longer term after effects of the accident include Miss H suffering ongoing headaches, memory issues and fatigue. Prior to the accident, Miss H very active, participating in a lot of sport both at work and as a hobby.  She was able to return to work post-accident but to a job with less responsibility due to her lack of energy.

How Farleys were able to help

Miss H contacted Michael Corrigan at Farleys Solicitors in order to make a claim for compensation against the other driver’s insurers, not only for the injuries that she had sustained but also financial losses that she suffered due to the ongoing side effects of her accident, such as the change in employment.

Our personal injury team reviewed extensive medical records and instructed experts including an orthopaedic surgeon and neuropsychologist, to determine the physical and psychological injuries that were caused by the accident.

Our team were also able to secure an interim payment for our client to be able to access treatment for her injuries, whilst proceedings were ongoing. This included CBT/EMDR treatment, both of which helped Miss H to cope with anxieties that she had following the accident.

Successful settlement

The medical reports detailed the full extent of the injuries suffered and on the basis of this an offer of settlement was put forward. Negotiations then continued between Farleys and the Defendant’s Insurers for settlement of Miss H’s personal injury claim.

Michael and his expert team were able to successfully secured Ms E a settlement in excess of £50,000. He commented

“Our client suffered severe injuries and health problems as a result of this road traffic accident so we were pleased to have successfully secured these damages in order for her to fund the care and support she will need going forward.

We hope the settlement allows her to draw a line under the experience and move forward with her life.”
