Mrs J approached Farleys’ personal injury team to act on her behalf after she was injured in an accident at work in December 2022.

Background

Mrs J had been working as usual when her leg became entangled in loose electrical cables situated near her desk, causing her to fall forward and land heavily on their right knee.

Despite completing the workday, Mrs J experienced immediate swelling and bruising.  Over the following days, the pain intensified, prompting her to seek medical attention. An MRI scan confirmed a high-grade partial tear of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), alongside pre-existing natural wear and tear in the knee.

Mrs J underwent a series of treatments including physiotherapy, a cortisone injection, and consultations with orthopaedic and rheumatology specialists. Although the bruising resolved within six weeks, symptoms such as swelling, stiffness and pain persisted, particularly when climbing stairs or kneeling.  These ongoing issues impacted Mrs J’s ability to engage in regular activities such as dog walking and gym attendance, contributing to muscle weakness and weight gain.

How Farleys were able to help

Mrs J instructed Jade Jump to act on her behalf in relation to a personal injury claim against her employer.

Jade submitted the claim to Mrs J’s employer who ultimately admitted liability for the accident.

A medical expert was instructed by Jade and he concluded that the accident caused soft tissue trauma and aggravated her existing degenerative conditions. He anticipated a full recovery within 18 months of the incident, with no permanent damage from the accident.

A Successful Settlement

Mrs J’s employer initially offered £3,000 to settle her claim.  Jade advised Mrs J that this was not enough and to reject the offer.  Court proceedings were necessary to expedite the case and increase her settlement.

Court proceedings were issued and, following negotiations, Jade was able to secure a settlement of £6,500 for Mrs J.

Jade commented:

This outcome emphasises the importance of maintaining safe work environments and promptly addressing reported hazards to prevent avoidable injuries. Thankfully Mrs J recovered from her injuries and we wish her all the best for the future.
