To celebrate the opening of our 2026 training contract applications, we turned to our current trainee solicitors to answer a key question: What’s life like as a Farleys’ trainee?

With a two-year training contract that spans a diverse range of seats, our trainees gain invaluable experiences and insights along the way. Taking time to reflect on what they’ve learned is a vital part of the journey.

We posed a series of questions to both our first and second-year trainees, here’s what they had to say.

What attracted you to this law firm when you applied for your training contract?

Finn Hubble, second year trainee, currently working in the Family department –

“When I applied for my training contract at Farleys, I was attracted by the firm’s strong reputation for high-quality legal services and its commitment to client care and community involvement.

“The supportive and collaborative environment, along with the diverse range of practice areas, offered me the opportunity to gain valuable experience and develop a well-rounded skill set. Farleys’ emphasis on professional development and mentorship also aligned with my career aspirations.”

Can you describe a day in the life of a trainee solicitor at our firm?

Bob Worsley, second year trainee, currently working in the Corporate department –

“A day in the life of a trainee solicitor at Farleys varies greatly from month to month, week to week, and even day to day. I have spent time in several departments, each offering unique experiences:

  • Family Department: Primarily dealing with financial settlements upon divorce.
  • Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Department: Handling everything from road traffic accidents to claims against medical institutions.
  • Corporate Department: Assisting with transactions and company restructures.

“There is no single ‘right’ way to navigate life as a trainee. Each department is different, and every file within those departments has its own nuances. You must be adaptable and willing to learn from both your successes and mistakes. Tasks that seem daunting at the start of your journey will become more manageable over time, bringing a sense of achievement as you develop.”

What kind of support have you received from supervisors and colleagues?

Megan Billington, second year trainee, currently working in the Personal Injury department –

“Through each department, the partners have always been helpful and approachable. Your training contract encompasses many different parts from the world of work, including growing your knowledge of the law but also thinking about the future and what you’d like your career to look like.

“Partners are always on hand to offer practical advice regarding your growth and development, not just assistance regarding your workload.”

What has been your proudest moment as a trainee solicitor at Farleys?

Eve Abdel-Moneim, first year trainee, currently working in the AADA department –

“Any time a client has left a positive review or feedback! In my current department, we are working with often vulnerable people who have been through a lot. Any time we get a good settlement or CICA award I feel proud, as it can be life changing for many of our clients.”

What’s been your favourite social or networking event organised by Farleys?

Megan Billington –

“My favourite networking event organised by Farleys has to be the Summer Conference. It is a great opportunity to hear all about what’s to come for the firm and how the past year has been in other departments but it is also an event where you get the chance to catch-up with colleagues and meet new people from around the firm!”

Why would you recommend Farleys to others looking for a training contract?

Stevie Kelly, second year trainee currently working in the Inquests department –

“I would recommend Farleys for many reasons. A combination of factors makes it an attractive firm to complete your training at, including a supportive culture, friendly and approachable colleagues and training partners, and a pragmatic yet flexible approach to learning during the training contact.

“At Farleys a trainee will engage in so many different aspects of the job and gain a full insight into their future role.”
