An 80-year-old man, David Preedy of Park Avenue, Burnley, has been charged with historic sexual offences alleged to have occurred between 2001 and 2025. The charges relate to two male complainants, the youngest of whom was 13 at the time of the alleged offending. They include indecent assault, sexual activity with a child aged 13–17, paying for sexual services of a child aged 16–17, and other related offences. Preedy most recently appeared before Burnley Crown Court on 30 January 2026.
While the legal process continues, this case underscores a reality familiar to many survivors of childhood sexual abuse: offending often remains hidden for decades, and victims may only feel able to speak out much later in life.
