This week (17-23 November) is Road Safety Week, a national annual campaign run by the charity Brake to raise awareness of various issues relating to safety on the roads in the UK.
This year, the campaign’s tagline is After the Crash. Every Road Victim Counts. Brake’s aim is to “raise awareness of the devastating toll of road crashes and celebrate the work of the incredible people who support families after a road death or serious injury.”
To do this, they are:
-
Leading on the development of a Road Victims’ Charter. The charter is calling for the government to provide sustainable funding and parity of care for all road victims and their families, regardless of who they are, where they live, and whether or not a crime has occurred.
-
Bringing people together to remember loved ones who have died or suffered life-changing injuries as a result of road crashes.
-
Educating children and young people on the people that help us after a crash.
-
Working with organisations that employ people who drive for work to understand the need for robust investigations into road crashes to understand why they happen and prevent further crashes.
-
Allowing people whose lives have been changed forever by road crashes to talk about their experiences.
-
Showcasing the work of Brake’s National Road Victim Service.
Brake’s National Road Victim Service
The National Road Victim Service run by Brake is a free, professional, trauma-informed service for road victims, providing emotional and practical support for victims and their families. They understand the dark times people go through following a crash and will be a supportive ear in the immediate and longer-term aftermath of a crash.
Brake’s National Road Victim Service is funded through donations and grants. If you would like to make a donation to the charity, please visit their website.
Making a Claim Following a Road Crash
Alongside accessing Brake’s free support service, a victim of a road crash may consider the possibility of making a claim for compensation to recover any losses they’ve suffered. That’s where we can help.
Here at Farleys, we have a team of personal injury specialists with experience of supporting victims of road crashes in accessing the support and funding they need to rehabilitate and find closure on their experiences. To discuss your case with one of our experts, please call 0845 287 0939, contact us by email, or use the online chat below.
