Farleys’ corporate law specialists, led by partner Debbie King, have advised the UK subsidiary of a South African listed industrial manufacturing and steel trading business on its acquisition of a modular buildings manufacturer.

Argent Industrial Limited is a South African based business which has been listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange for more than 20 years and has subsidiaries in both the UK and the United States of America. The group itself is predominantly a steel merchant while the subsidiaries work in the manufacturing of steel product such as gates, shutters, ladders, cranes and more.

The UK subsidiary of Argent Industrial Limited has now completed the acquisition of Liverpool based Standmode and its subsidiary Mersey Container Services for £6.9m. Standmode manufactures modular units which can be stacked or linked, bespoke to customer requirements.

The deal will allow Argent Industrial UK Limited to continue to expand its operations in the UK and to diversify its portfolio and offering within steel manufacturing.

Farleys corporate law team, including Debbie King and Amy Jones, were instructed to assist on the acquisition, which also involved partner Stephen Greenwood and solicitor Haiqa Riaz on the commercial property aspects of the transaction.

Debbie King commented,

I was pleased to assist Treve, Hansie and the team at Argent on their latest acquisition, having assisted them with a previous UK acquisition. Their acquisition of the Standmode group brings lots more opportunities for the business and I wish them all the best for what I’m sure will be an exciting future.
