Former Baxenden teacher, Grahame Brennand, has today been found guilty of 26 sexual offences against girls and 3 cruelty offences against boys. The crimes were committed between 1973 and 1989 when Brennand worked at St John’s Primary School.

Today’s convictions relate to 11 victims and are in addition to 17 sexual assaults against 13 girls that he was found guilty of in January 2018. Lancashire Police state that the actual number of offences was close to 200 as many of the counts he was charged with included multiple assaults.

The victims, aged between 7 and 11 years old at the time, were commended on their bravery in coming forward and having to re-live their ordeals through giving evidence. It was noted that the convictions were successful due to the determination and courage of everyone involved.

Describing the paedophile as ‘devious and arrogant’, the court heard how he denied having carried out the crimes and even suggested that the victims had colluded to invent all of the allegations.

Brennand will be sentenced at Preston Crown Court on 12th October 2018.
