In December 2025, Roy Green, aged 81, plead guilty to 32 charges of historic sexual abuse against multiple children between 1994-1999.
Roy used his involvement in a youth football team to exploit and abused multiple boys aged 8-14 in the Accrington area. He was in his 50s at the time, grooming boys with cigarettes, chocolate, alcohol and pornography to gain their trust.
The case came to light after one survivor reported the abuse to the Police in 2023. An investigation ensued which uncovered further survivors of Roy Green’s abuse.
Due to the courage of the men who came forward, Roy Green was sentenced on 2nd April 2026 to 21 years in Prison.
At Farleys, we regularly deal with claims for compensation for survivors of historic child abuse. Claims of this nature can be brought against agencies or organisations who should have protected them as children, and/or Criminal Injury Compensation Authority claims.
For a lot of survivors, a criminal conviction for historic abuse does not adequately bring to justice the abuse they have experienced, and we often deal with claims where a criminal conviction has not been possible. Therefore, it is important that survivors are adequately compensated for their experiences, so that they can move forward.
For many survivors of abuse, the psychological impact stays with them, affecting them into adulthood. One of the survivors of Roy green commented:
The abuse I suffered did not end when the acts stopped. It has lived with me every single day since. It has left deep emotional and psychological scars that have shaped my life, my relationships and my sense of safety in the world.
Farleys frequently handle claims on behalf of those who have mental health problems and psychiatric injury as a result of the abuse, and many of whom who have struggled to work due to the impact of the abuse. Compensation can ensure that survivors are able to access necessary treatment for any mental health issues, and also compensate for any loss of earnings due to the abuse.
If you have been a victim of crime and believe you may be entitled to compensation through the CICA scheme, our specialist team may be able to assist you.
