Farleys has joined a number of well-known corporate brands in signing the Pledge To Be Seen, a campaign run by visible difference and disfigurement charity Changing Faces.
One in five people in the UK identify as having a mark, scar or condition that affects their appearance yet of those surveyed by Changing Faces, more than half said that people with visible differences were regularly ignored by brands.
According to the charity, “It’s time for people with a visible difference to be seen and heard. That’s why Changing Faces launched the Pledge To Be Seen campaign. It’s our call to companies and brands to represent more people with a visible difference.”
The pledge by Farleys will cover many aspects of the firm; from marketing, where we will ensure representation is seen across the firm’s marketing materials, to recruitment where we already follow a commitment not to discriminate and will continue to do so, as well as fundraising and raising awareness across our offices.
Changing Faces launched the pledge in November 2021, announcing that big names such as IBM and Avon had already joined the campaign.
Lauren Noble, Partnerships Manager of Changing Faces commented,
“People with a visible difference have to deal with stares, comments and bullying because of how they look. They tell us that they feel excluded and isolated from public life, rarely seeing anyone who looks like them in the media, adverts and brand campaigns.”
We are delighted that Farleys signed up to our Pledge To Be Seen campaign, committing to better represent people with visible differences across their internal and external communications. It’s so important that people with visible differences feel represented and understood, and we’re so excited to be working with Farleys to raise awareness about the prejudice and discrimination that those with visible differences still face today.
Holly Barnes, Personal Injury Solicitor at Farleys, commented,
“I first came across Changing Faces while looking for support for a client who had suffered facial injuries as a result of an accident. We were in the process of pursuing a personal injury claim for them but I knew that they also needed additional support for the psychological effects of the injury. This is where Changing Faces stood out. They work tirelessly to support people with visible differences and fight for greater representation across society.
We’ve learnt so much since contacting the charity and are passionate about signing this pledge and adding our voice to the cause. We are looking forward to working with Lauren and Catherine and everyone at Changing Faces.”
