Following an investigation by Avon & Somerset Police into allegations of historic sexual abuse, a former prison officer, Patrick Devaney has been charged.

The focussed investigation centred on alleged incidents dating back to the 1970’s and 1980’s at HMP Eastwood Park, then a juvenile detention centre in Falfield, South Gloucestershire. Consequently, Devaney, who is now 79 years of age has been charged with misconduct in a public office and two counts of indecent assault against a boy under the age of 16 years; and is due to answer the charges before Bristol Crown Court.

Here at Farleys Solicitors we represent many survivors of sexual abuse who have found the strength of character to seek justice by reporting allegations of abuse to the Police. With the support of the Crown Prosecution Service they have often given evidence in criminal trials against their abusers for the horrendous acts of sexual abuse committed on them.

In these circumstances the civil courts afford survivors the opportunity to claim damages for the injury and loss suffered by them as a direct result of incidents of sexual abuse that they have suffered, and may also be eligible to present a compensation claim to the government funded Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority.

Farleys are leading specialists in handling abuse law cases and are on hand 24 hours/7 days a week to provide confidential and sensitive advice on these traumatic experiences and the options of redress.
