A Father and Son duo from Darwen and Birmingham have been sentenced following a 7 week trial at Preston Crown Court.

The Father was sentenced to 25 years after being found guilty of 36 child sex offences against a 6 and 7 year old girl.  He used his wife’s position as a child minder to groom and abuse his victims at their Darwen home throughout 1980 and 1990.

His son was sentenced to 8 years after being convicted on two counts of rapes following investigations where it emerged that he committed sexual offences against a 12 year old girl.

Unfortunately in this case one of the father’s victims died during the investigations so never got to see his being brought to justice. However for the other two victims they have had the satisfaction of seeing the father and son being brought to justice and may also be eligible for Criminal injuries Compensation.

The victims would also be able to bring claims against the offenders personally but unfortunately they often lack the assets to make this worthwhile.  It may even be that the insurers to the wives childminding business would compensate the victims.  Cases of this nature show the multiplicity of potential claims that these victims can bring following their horrendous experiences.

These victims will have and most probably will undoubtedly still suffer significant psychological harm due to the actions of these men, and for these girls there is unfortunately no getting away from what happened to them in their early years.

Here at Farleys our Abuse Department specialises in bringing Criminal Injuries Compensation Claims for those victims who have suffered sexual abuse, we are whole heartedly committed to achieving the justice that the victims quite rightly deserve.  If you have been affected by any issues raised in this blog please do not hesitate to contact our specialist team today.
