A Blackburn-based bakery which has been providing delicious baked goods to the people of Lancashire and beyond for 10 years has taken the next step in its expansion thanks to the assistance of Farleys’ commercial property team.

Moorings Bakery is a family-run business which currently employs 20 staff from their base on Moorings Close. Due to the success of the business, its owners have taken the decision to expand through the purchase of a new premises in Waterfall Mill on Queen Victoria Street, Mill Hill.

Waterfall Mill, established by John Fish around 1852, was a large integrated cotton spinning and weaving mill which operated in varying capacities until 1975.

The new premises comes with a commitment from Moorings Bakery to expand the workforce, “giving new job opportunities to the local residents which is what Waterfall Mill has done for 172 years.”

A planning application has been submitted to change the use of the building from its former plumbing showroom into a state-of-the-art food preparation site and shop. They also plan to replace the roof to include solar panels to power their baking equipment in a sustainable way.
