Thinking about a career in law? We’ve had Clitheroe student Amina in house learning about law, here’s what she had to say about her experience at Farleys.

My name is Amina and I am a pupil at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School.  I am interested in a career in Law and last week had the opportunity to spend my work experience at Farleys solicitors. I learnt a lot about Law in a short period of time and I am lucky to have had the chance to see, first hand, how solicitors work.

On Monday I spent time photocopying files and learnt about what happens when someone makes a claim for personal injury. On Tuesday one of the partners gave me a case to consider. He asked me to do some research and see whether I could decide from the file why a previous Law firm had not taken a case to Court. I found this very interesting and learnt that ideally you need to have some form of witness evidence before taking any case to Court.

On Wednesday and Thursday I learnt about neglect cases and talked to the partner about signs of neglect such as frequent trips to hospital and bad personal hygiene. I learnt the difference between abuse and neglect and the difference between Barristers and solicitors. I also had the opportunity to discuss the process and the qualifications required to be a solicitor. On Friday it was back to photocopying and helping to prepare trial bundles, overall it was a great week!

For me this was a unique insight into Law and I very much appreciate Jonathan’s assistance in my work experience.   All in all this has been a very interesting and intriguing week and I learnt a lot.

Comment from Jonathan

“It has been a pleasure to have Amina with us for the last week.   She has asked intelligent questions and has been very helpful around the office.   We value the links we have with local schools and educational establishments and work hard to identify talented youngsters who we ultimately hope will become members of the profession.   If you are interested in a career in the Law or a training contract please contact our resident training Principal Nicholas Molyneux.”
