Legal Advice on Adoption

Here at Farleys Solicitors our award winning Family Law team specialises in all child law matters including adoption.

Our expertise within this area of law allows us to conduct each case with sensitivity as we carefully support our clients through the adoption process. We can guide you through the relevant process and advise you on the legal framework.

The legislation surrounding adoption has a prescribed set of guidelines that prospective parents must satisfy before the court will consider granting an adoption order. Currently, for example, the law states you must be at least 21 years of age and able to provide the child with a caring, stable, and permanent home.

Alternatives to Adoption

Adoption is not always possible or the most appropriate option, especially in a family with a step-parent. Other possibilities include a step-parent acquiring and sharing parental responsibility for the child or the making of a Child Arrangements Order.

Ultimately, the best outcome for your child needs to be achieved. We can advise parents on the various legal avenues available. The advantages and disadvantages of each option need to be considered and balanced against each other before a final decision is made.
