Important Changes in Employment Law
EMPLOYERS need to be aware of the changes in legislation which have come in to force in recent weeks (including an increase to statutory redundancy pay).The maximum amount of a 'weeks pay', for the purpose of calculating certain statutory repayments including redundancy payments has been increased from £350 per week to £380 per week as of 1st October 2009. This has been implemented by the Work and Families (Increase of Maximum Amount) Order 2009 SI/2009/1903.
The national minimum wage has been increased as follows;
a) for workers aged 22 and over - from £5.73 per hour to £5.80 per hour;
b) for workers aged 18 to 21 year old - from £4.77 per hour to £4.83 per hour;
c) for 16 and 17 year olds - from £3.53 per hour to £3.57 per hour
