Legal Aid for Family Law Cases

Legal Aid for Family Law Cases

If you are on income support or other benefit or you earn less than £2,530 a month, you may qualify for Legal Aid for your family law case.

A solicitor with a Legal Aid franchise such as Farleys Solicitors in Blackburn, Accrington and Burnley, can assess whether you are eligible for Legal Help, or Family Help to help you negotiate a divorce, separation, financial settlement or child custody agreement. Farleys Solicitors has a contract with the Legal Services Commission, granting us the right to offer Legal Aid to our clients, so we can offer you legal advice, help preparing your case, help with mediation and representation at court, if necessary.

Legal Aid is available because mediating a family dispute is complex and negotiating a legally binding settlement is important. You are entitled to a specialist solicitor to help you through the stress and worry of a family dispute.

Types of Legal Aid for Family Law

  1. Legal Help - This form of Legal Aid is for general legal advice on Family Law and to help with disputes including negotiation and drafting agreements.
  2. Family Help - This form of Legal Aid is for help in preparing a case to go to court including writing letters, finding and interviewing witnesses and speaking to barristers.

It is important to remember that with all types of Legal Aid for family law, if you win a financial settlement, you may have to pay some or all of your costs from your settlement. Your family law solicitor will advise you of any conditions of accepting Legal Aid.

You should always speak to a qualified Legal Aid solicitor to determine whether you are eligible for public funding. Without proper legal representation you may not get the settlement you deserve.

Farleys Solicitors has Legal Aid franchises in Blackburn, Accrington, and Burnley. Please contact a solicitor or lawyer on 0845 050 1958 now or e-mail us.
