Lasting Power of Attorney

In what situations is LPA typically used?
Typically, an LPA is necessary in situations in which on of the following have deprived the individual in question of their ability to handle their bank accounts, property, legal affairs or personal health:
- Accident
- Illness
- Old age
What are the benefits of creating a Lasting Power of Attorney?
Planning ahead and creating a Lasting Power of Attorney now allows you to make arrangements to appoint another individual to manage your personal affairs, should you at any point in the future become unable to do so.
An LPA will allow you to decide who will make certain decisions regarding your finances, legal affairs and personal welfare and to set boundaries for such decisions - effectively they afford you greater control of your future, should accident or illness deprive you of the capacity to handle your affairs personally.
The person to whom you assign power of attorney does not have to be a family member, it could be a close personal friend or family solicitor - the important thing is that you have complete trust in them.
